Common questions

What is free, and what needs the Full Version?

Everything for one job, your main job, is free for as long as you use Tipstub: logging and editing shifts, past totals, the calendar, totals and hourly pay, the year summary, CSV and PDF export, importing that job's shifts, backups and restore, the widgets, the end-of-shift reminder and Delete all data. More than one job, logging for the others, and Insights need the Full Version. The first time you need it, for example when you save a second job or open Insights, Tipstub offers a free 14-day trial; after that, the Full Version is a one-time purchase, with no subscription and no ads.

What happens when the trial ends?

Nothing you logged is lost. Every job and shift stays visible, in your totals and year summary, and exportable. Logging for your main job stays free; logging for other jobs and adding jobs need the Full Version. Without it, you can choose which job is your main job once every 30 days (Settings › Jobs › Make main job).

I already bought the Full Version. How do I restore it?

Sign in to the App Store with the same Apple Account, open Settings › Full Version in Tipstub and tap Restore Purchases. Restore Purchases is also on the offer screen.

How do I redeem a code, and does Family Sharing work?

Tap Settings › Full Version › Redeem Code and enter it. The Full Version works with Family Sharing: if a family organizer bought it with sharing on, it unlocks for everyone in the family group. The free trial isn't shared.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles every purchase, so refunds go through Apple: visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account and choose Tipstub's purchase. We can't see or refund purchases ourselves.

How do I back up, and move to a new iPhone?

There's no account. Your data is stored only on your iPhone, and in your own backups, including any backup folder you choose. We have no servers and never receive it. A new iPhone set up from an iCloud or computer backup gets your log too. You can also tap Settings › Back up now, then Save to Files… or Share…; anyone with the file can read it. On the new iPhone, install Tipstub, tap Settings › Restore from backup…, pick the file and tap Replace. This replaces Tipstub's data there.

How does Automatic backup work?

In Settings › Automatic backup, tap Choose a folder… and pick a folder, for example one in iCloud Drive. Each time you leave the app after a change, Tipstub replaces the copy there, and keeps up to four weekly copies; other files in the folder are never touched. If the folder already holds a backup with more shifts, or one from another iPhone, Tipstub asks before replacing it. If it shows Needs attention, the folder was moved, deleted or can't be reached: tap Choose the folder again. When the file reaches iCloud Drive is up to iOS and your storage provider.

How do I switch from another tip app?

Export your shifts as a CSV file in the other app, then in Tipstub tap Settings › Import shifts from a CSV file. Match each column to what it holds, such as the date, hours worked, cash tips, card tips or tip-out, then check the preview, which lists the rows it skips and the shifts you already have, and import. Undo on the message that follows removes the whole import. Rows for your main job import free; rows for other jobs need the Full Version, or tap Import <your main job> only to leave them out.

I started logging mid-year. How do I get a full year?

Import the earlier shifts from your old app, or add past totals: Settings › Past totals lets you enter cash and card tips, tip-outs, wages and hours for a month or a whole year, per job. They count in your totals and the year summary.

Why did a late shift land on the wrong day?

It shouldn't: shifts you log before the day ends count for the day before, so a shift that ends after midnight stays on the night it started. Set when your day ends in Settings › Week and day › Day ends at, and the first day of your week in Week starts on.

Can I log tips in more than one currency?

Yes. Each job has its own currency, set when you add it, and totals are never added across currencies: a US-dollar job and a Canadian-dollar job each get their own totals. A job's currency can't change once it has shifts; add a new job instead.

Reminders didn't arrive. What can I check?

Open Settings › End-of-shift reminder: Reminder health shows whether notifications are allowed and lets you send a test reminder. Also check Settings › Notifications › Tipstub on your iPhone, any Focus that silences Tipstub, and Low Power Mode.

Is the year summary tax advice?

No. It's a personal record of the tips you logged. Tipstub doesn't decide what is deductible, calculate a deduction or ask about your income. For the US tips deduction, see our page About the tips deduction, which points to the IRS; for your own situation, ask a tax professional.

How do I delete everything?

Tap Settings › Delete all data and confirm twice. Your jobs, shifts, past totals, settings and the reminder schedule are deleted. Files in a folder you chose for Automatic backup stay there, and Tipstub forgets the folder. Deleting the app also removes its data. Files you saved elsewhere, and earlier iCloud or computer backups, keep what they had.

Tipstub keeps a record of what you log. It is not tax advice. Read the privacy policy.
